dyson-dc15-ballThe Dyson DC15 was introduced in 2005 and has a ball where wheels usually are.  This revolutionary design allows the vacuum cleaner to twist and turn into spaces by only turning your hand.  The motor for the Dyson DC15 is mounted inside the ball, which keeps the center of gravity low and the machine light in your hand, while rubber tires prevent slipping.  This popular line became known as “The Ball”.

The Dyson DC15 uses the same technology as the other Dyson vacuum cleaners with its Root Cyclone Technology. Dyson vacuum cleaners use high forces of air to spin dirt and debris to the sides of the container so the power of suction is maintained. Individual cyclonic chambers increase the power of the airflow so that the Dyson DC15 vacuum cleaner will continue to vacuum at the same level of efficiency throughout a job.

The Dyson DC15 has an improved brushroll with stiffer bristles to make it more effective at cleaning carpet. As an added bonus the DC15 is reportedly less noisy than the DC07 or DC14.

Dyson DC15 Features

  • Lifetime HEPA filtration system to help clean dirt, pollen, ragweed, dust mites, and more from the air of your home.

  • A wide channel and 13-3/5″ cleaning path lets you cover a wide range of flooring with every pass.

Top 10 issues that can stop a Dyson from working properly

Here are 10 issues that can stop your Dyson from working properly that can easily be resolved.

1. Not picking up through the hose

If your Dyson won’t pick up using the hose check to make sure that there is nothing blocking the hose. Picking up smaller objects can prevent this from happening again in the future.

2. Blocked cleaner head (brushes)

A blocked cleaner head can be fixed by carefully removing the blockage. Hair, string and other items are usually to blame. It might be time to replace the cleaner head if it looks worn out, or isn’t as effective even after you have removed the blockage.

3. Turns itself off

If your Dyson turns itself off it is usually a sign that it is overheating. This can be caused by a blockage or dirty filters. It is straightforward to check for a blockage or change dirty filters. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, then it may mean that the motor is worn out.

4. Not picking up

After a while you might find that your Dyson is not picking up. This is usually caused by blocked filters. It is important to check both the pre and post motor filters.  Clean or replace them as necessary.

5. Burning smell

If your Dyson is emitting a burning smell, it might mean that you may need to replace the motor.

6. Won’t stand up

If your Dyson will not stand up, then the mechanism has come out of alignment, and can be resolved quickly and easily.

7. Clattering sound

If your hear your Dyson making a clattering sound it is usually because there is something caught in the brush bar. Cleaning the brush bar will normally resolve this. If it doesn’t, then it could indicate a clutch problem.

8. Intermittently cuts out

A Dyson that intermittently cuts out usually points to a power cable problem. Vacuum cleaner power leads have hard lives as they are unwound, stretched during use and then wound away in the same position. Not to mention the fact that they often get caught on furniture and under doors. It is recommended that the power cable is completely replaced, rather than shortened and reattached.

9. Burning rubber smell

If you can smell burning rubber this often indicates a brush roll and belt problem. By having a look, you will be able to tell what the problem is and what needs replacing.

10. General observations

If you have had your Dyson a while, and have never cleaned the filters, or cleaned the brush head, perhaps now is a good time to take a look and see if the power cable is wearing out, or the filters are dirty. You can replace the parts as necessary, and not be without the use of your Dyson. Prevention is better than cure.

Dyson DC07 Vacuum Buying Guide

The Dyson DC07 is considered the original Dyson vacuum cleaner and is still one of the best selling Dyson vacuum cleaners today.  Promising power, functionality, and ease of use does the Dyson DC07 vacuum deliver?

As with all of the Dyson vacuums, the Dyson DC07 All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner claims no reduction in suction for the life of the vacuum.  This is because Dyson vacuums use centrifugal force to produce suction.  The patented Root Cyclone technology spins the air at a very high velocity to produce strong suction power, 250 constant airwatts.  Conventional vacuum cleaners rely on the dust bag and filter to produce suction.

The dirt is collected in the clear plastic bin drum and even when the bin is almost full there is no loss of suction power. Although the Dyson DC07 vacuum has great suction power it is one of the heavier vacuums available at nearly twenty pounds. Without a self-propelled feature it can make it difficult to use for some. However, it can be tilted back on its real wheels to move it from room to room.

The Dyson DC07 vacuum features a quick draw hose that stretches to 17 feet, and a brush control that auto adjusts to different heights to protect carpet, rugs and delicate floors.  The tools come with what is called High Velocity Airflow, this directs the air down into the carpet pile causing more dirt to be picked up and not allowing curtains and other light materials to get stuck in the tools.  With the long draw hose and specialty tools, it makes cleaning stairs easy with the Dyson DC07.

With lifetime HEPA filtration and a surface area of 416 inches, the Dyson DC07 High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters can actually remove 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers in diameter! This can help trap ultra fine particles such as typical pollen and other household allergens.  The Dyson DC07 is certified asthma friendly! Air expelled from a Dyson DC07 vacuum has up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than the actual air you breathe.

The DC07 Dyson vacuum cleaner is a very higly recommended vacuum.  It does however have some minor faults.  It is a little heavy at 20 pounds and is unable to get underneath furniture because of its high clearance, but these are more than compensated for with the incredible suction power of the Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner.

The Dyson Story

In 1978, while vacuuming his home, James Dyson realized that his bag vacuum cleaner was constantly losing suction power.  He noticed how quickly dust clogged the pores of the bag and blocked the airflow, so that suction dropped rapidly. He set out to solve this problem.  After 5 years and over 5,000 prototypes later, the world’s first cyclonic bagless vacuum arrived—the Dyson vacuum cleaner.

The traditional bag was replaced by two cyclone chambers which use centrifugal force to separate dust and dirt from the air. Larger particles are separated in the outer cyclone, while smaller particles are separated in the inner cyclone.

James Dyson offered his invention to major manufacturers. One by one they turned him down, apparently not interested in new technology.  James Dyson decided to manufacture his own vacuum cleaner. In June 1993 he opened a research center and factory near his home in England to begin making his machine. The result was the Dyson Cyclone, the first vacuum cleaner that didn’t lose suction.

Dyson vacuum cleaners collect the finest particles of dust—even microscopic particles such as cigarette smoke—without clogging.  The suction remains ultra strong.  In fact, Dyson vacuums are made to increase suction to get the dirt off the floor.   All this is done while Dyson vacuum cleaners use innovative, HEPA filtration to help those with allergies.  Dyson vacuums have lifetime washable filters and no bags to buy.
